A chef is like a great Symphony Conductor. He has talent, technique, passion and inspiration. This is where Vic Firth Gourmet enters the stage. We begin with incredible pepper and salt mills. They are the Stradivarius of gourmet products. The grinding mechanism surpasses all competitors. The beauty and the finish have the patina of a Mozart Serenade. Our rolling pins are "elegance in motion". The stainless steel rod with ball bearings makes for effortless rolling.
I am able to maintain these highest standards of quality, and offer a lifetime guarantee, because we manufacture all of our wood products in Newport, Maine. Our mill was built in 1856, and today we are the largest private employer in the area. In 2007, we received the Pine Tree Award—the highest recognition a factory can receive in the state of Maine. It signifies our commitment to expanding the labor force, exploring innovative improvements in manufacturing and being "green".
Protecting the environment has always been a priority for me. The majority of wood we purchase is from a local FSC certified supplier, and I have encouraged our entire vendor base to participate in this valuable program as well. All our scrap and sawdust are collected and sent to our wood fired boilers for use as fuel.
I also have the pleasure of great associations with amazing chefs Mario Batali, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. It is very rewarding to see our mills front and center on many of the Food Network shows. Like these great chefs, I know the meaning of perfection. I won’t put my name on something unless it’s the highest quality product available.
